Key Issues in Bioethics with contributed papers, plenary talks, and specialty panels on the Ethics of Laboratory Science, Biblical Bioethics, Sustainable Prolife Models, the Law and Prolife Issues, Palliative Care, Theology and Bioethics, and Book Presentations.
2017 Smith Award Recipient and Banquet Speaker:
Robert Spitzer S.J., Ph.D. in Philosophy, Star of EWTN's Father Spitzer's Universe, President of both the Magis Center of Reason and Faith and the Spitzer Center of Ethical Leadership, the author of eight books, and the retired president of Gonzaga University. He will be speaking on The Inescapability of the Prolife Stance.
Plenary Speakers:
David A Prentice Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Vice-President and Research Director of Charlotte Lozier Institute, founding member of Do No Harm: The Coalition of Americans for Research Ethics, and adult stem cell specialist. He will be speaking on Bioethics, Biotechnology and Policy: Current Challenges.
Patrick Lee Ph.D. in Philosophy, McAleer Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Center for Bioethics at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He will be speaking on Human Dignity at the Margins of Life.
Kevin Fitzgerald, S.J. and Ph.D. in Bioethics and Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics, the Lauler Chair of Catholic Health Care Ethics at Georgetown's Center for Clinical Bioethics and Research Associate Professor of Oncology focusing on gene regulation. He will be speaking on The Promise & Peril of Genomic Medicine.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/PAPERS
Proposals Due April 7th for Priority Consideration.
Submissions on the fundamentals of bioethics as well as abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia are welcome. All proposals should be one page (maximum) including the proposed paper’s working title or your published book’s title and publisher/date, full contact information and a brief abstract. Email proposals to Professor Barbara Freres at bjfreres@stritch.edu. Excellent conference papers are eligible for publication in our peer-reviewed proceedings, Life and Learning. UST Dorm Reservations
• Efficiency or quad apartment style dorms at the University of St. Thomas's St. Paul campus with a rate of $64/night and a reservation deadline of May 9th. (N.B. the efficiency style apartment dorm rooms have limited availability so book early (the other rooms are apartment style quad bedrooms that require sharing a bathroom and a living space).

TRANSPORTATION
During rush hour, it takes about 30 minutes to drive between UST's Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses; otherwise about 15-20 minutes. Taxis charge around $35 to commute between the campuses. On Friday, UST's free shuttle bus will be running between the campuses about every hour; but on Saturday, the shuttle bus will not be available. If sufficient numbers reserve rooms in UST's dorms on the St. Paul campus---and reserve a seat on the shuttle bus for $30 dollars round trip--UFFL can hire a special bus to run on Saturday morning from 8-10 am and again Saturday evening from 7:30-9:30.
• N.B. If interested in UFFL hiring a bus, be sure to reserve a seat when you make the dorm reservation---otherwise a bus on Saturday cannot become an option.
